On Saturday, an International Criminal Court (ICC) witness, who was kidnapped a week ago, was found murdered along River Yala in Nandi County.

Meshack Yebei, 34, was killed in a bizarre ritual-style-murder where his eyes were gouged out, tongue and genitals chopped off and shot in the head.

According to the witness' brother, Meshack, who was an ICC witness in the case facing Deputy President William Ruto, was abducted by men believed to be from the Office of the Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda.

His sibling, who was only identified as Gerald, said Meshack was a witness on Ruto’s side and Bensouda’s men were unhappy with his decision to be on Ruto’s side.

He said Meshack had reportedly expressed fears for his life after what he called “differing with some people over the ICC cases”.

Kapseret member of parliament, Oscar Sudi, also said the man was about to testify for the defence in cases facing Deputy President William Ruto and his co-accused, Joshua Sang.

“He was our witness and we want police to investigate what happened. We want to know the truth,” Sudi said.
